DENTURES GOLD COAST & BRISBANE
Dentures
Dentures can provide a comfortable and secure replacement for missing teeth, at any age.
If you have lost one or multiple or all of your teeth due to injury, trauma, decay or age, dentures can be a cost-effective way to replace them and to restore the functionality of your smile. Your friendly dentist at Complete Dental in Coorparoo & Elanora will help you to find the option that is right for you, so you can smile again.
What are full and partial dentures?
There are two different types of dentures available: full and partial dentures. No matter which one you and your dentist decide, they will be custom made to perfectly suit and fit your mouth.
Full dentures are usually the recommended option if you are missing many or all of your teeth along your dental arch, upper or lower. They may require the removal of existing teeth in the arch for optimum results and fit securely over the gums.
Full dentures are usually held in place over the palate, using a clear, pink-coloured or metal appliance. Usually, the subtler options are more popular, as patients are concerned with the visibility of dentures when yawning or laughing.
Partial dentures are, as the name suggests, used to replace partial sections of your teeth, where one or several teeth might be missing. Partial dentures can reduce the pressure on your existing, natural teeth. They help to distribute the forces of everyday activities – like chewing or grinding – more easily.
Partial dentures can be secured to the existing teeth or secured using a custom-moulded, flesh-coloured or metal plate that moulds around your gum line and palette.
At Complete Dental in Coorparoo & Elanora, natural-looking, subtle dentures are important to us. That is why we work hard to ensure that the colours and shapes of the appliance match those of your natural mouth and teeth.
What types of dentures are there?
At Complete Dental Coorparoo & Elanora we offer Valplast, Immediate and Conventional dentures.
Partial dentures can be secured using a metal framework that clasps to your existing natural teeth. However, as this is generally quite visible, most people now opt for a contemporary form of partial denture called Valplast. These use a flexible plastic material to fit neatly and securely into your mouth and are virtually invisible.
How to clean and look after dentures
Most patients find cleaning and looking after dentures easy, as the appliances are removable. Dentures need to be cleaned regularly, just like your regular teeth and there are special denture toothpastes on the market. Denture soaking solutions are also available to ensure their cleanliness and longevity. It is important that your dentures are handled carefully so as that they do not bend out of shape or are not damaged. Once the dentures are out, use a soft toothbrush or gauze to gently clean the gums and surrounding soft tissue.
If you have never had a denture before, it can be very different having a foreign appliance in the mouth. Most people have no problem adjusting and adapting to removable dentures but it is not for everyone. Rest assured, your dentist at Complete Dental in Coorparoo & Elanora will advise you on what to expect and how to properly care for your false teeth.
